Noah Kalos is a studio arts major at Oberlin College. He focuses primarily on painting but is coming to it after many years studying photography. Noah was born outside of Boston in 1986. He grew up in Belmont, Massachusetts. He started playing with paints as soon as he could walk. Attending The Fenn school Noah began his study of photography at the age of 12. He continued to pursue photography throughout high school and into college.
Noah took "Intermedia Digital and Tactile" his first class involving painting since middle school in the fall of 2005. In 2006 Noah took a year off from Oberlin college to hike the Appalachian Trail, a foot trail that goes from Georgia to Maine. He spent seven months hiking across the country and it was during this break that he began to transition from photography to painting.
Back at Oberlin Noah began working with color photography and fell in love with colors. It was this love of color that pushed him to begin to paint academically. Noah's paintings develop from a place of meditation and a love for the medium. They are playful expressions of color and gesture. Noah's final year at Oberlin consisted o one class for the entire year, Senior Studio. For senior studio Noah worked on a series of paintings expressing the fluidity of the moment.
